New York City, May 2014 – Opening Night of the Eleventh Annual Bosnian-Herzegovinian Film Festival was a great success! The festival will continue through Saturday, May 3rd, at Tribeca Cinemas in New York City. Having its New York premiere at the festival will be Chris Leslie’s and Oggi Tomić’s “Finding Family”.
”We can’t hear the voices of Syrian children, so listen to the story of a child of Sarajevo” written by Mic Wright from The Telegraph is amongst many other stories published by media across Europe and Great Britain on Finding Family, a feature length documentary which also premiered at 19th Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF) on 18th August 2013.
In June 2012 I travelled to Sarajevo to start an upcoming documentary ”Finding Family” (working title) with fellow filmmaker and a good friend, Chris Leslie who in 1997 set up and ran photography projects for kids in the local orphanage. The project ran for 4 years as he returned every summer for 3 or 4 months to replenish the project and run classes.
Below is a small list of films that have made an impact on me as a filmmaker and photographer. As you will notice, it is short list because there are so many movies out there that it would probably take weeks to decide which ones to publish an article about. its hard to pick and chose but these are some of my favourites and highly recommended.
Our feature, double BHFFNYC and BAFTA award-winning documentary, ”Finding Family” premiered at this year’s Festival of Tolerance – JFF Zagreb which was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Schindler’s List. Festival symbolically started with a video message and greeting by Stephen Spielberg in which he addressed President of the festival Mr Bruno Lusting and film festival guests.
