To celebrate the 75th birthday of Professor Stephen Hawking, his Cambridge college – Gonville & Caius – commissioned a piece of music. Composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad, a former student of Caius, based her piece on Prof Hawking’s own favourite theme: the vastness of the universe. This film shows how she researched these complex ideas, reveals the beautiful work she created for the Choir of Gonville & Caius, and includes Prof Hawking’s own reaction at the première in Caius Hall.
